Here are some tips to help you become a sales superstar!
Most people concentrate on sales knowledge and techniques but they have forgotten that mental toughness is also a contributing factor in sales. Without it, we would not be able to excel in sales. Here are some desired characteristics of a super sales star. If you don’t have, fret not, you can develop it as you progress on your sales career.
Self Motivation
Motivation is a big factor if we want to make it big in sales. There will be more setbacks than success. Hence, we must know how to self-motivate ourselves. Treat your motivation level like a battery, we need to constantly charge it to perform at optimum level. There are many methods in self motivation like exercise, reading motivation books, listening to CDs, attending motivation workshops and talking to mentors.
High Emotional Quotient
Having a high EQ definitely will help in your sales process too. As sales is a career where you will meet all sorts of people, so the art of dealing with them is to learn how to control your emotions. There are times where we will meet unreasonable clients who might hurl abuse at you. You might had the impulse to shout back. Cool down and think. You have nothing to gain by doing that. A good tip is to give a smile at this difficult moment. It definitely will melt the hostility of your client. Learn to be lenient to others but be strict to yourself. Good listening skills and empathy for others are desired. A good step to have a high EQ is to know yourself and your own feelings well as the saying goes, Understand Thyself, Control Thyself, Give Thyself.
High Network Quotient
The ultimate of having high NQ is to increase your contacts and referrals. As sales depend on network of clients, so we have to constantly increase it. Attend as many networking events as possible. Have a definite aim for each one you attend. Ask the other party what products or services you can actually provide for him. Most importantly prepare your business cards to exchange with the newly acquainted friend. When talking about products or services, do not talk about yourself, talk more on the benefits of your products or services. Be organized and keep a updated networking list. You can divide the list into 3 categories namely Hot, Warm and Cold market. Keep doing this every month and you client list will be growing.
Persistence Strength
Persistence pays in sales. Do not quit at the slightest setback. Face it with guts instead! Failure cannot cope with persistency! A sales process is persistence test. Whoever can last to the end, win the race. Sometimes when a client tried to make things difficult is not because they don’t like you or the product. It is they want to try to see if the sales agent is persistent and trustworthy. No client would want to buy a product or service and find that the next day the salesman had quit.
Reflect Daily
Reflect on yourself daily on what you have done, whether you have performed your best and the mistakes you have committed. This is a good way to monitor your progress to see whether your progress. At the end of the day if you think you have not done enough, reflect on it where you can improve. Setting goals no doubt is important to achieve sales target but reflecting on your goals daily is equally important.
